"a very powerful voice... how magnificent."
Turridu, Cavalleria rusticana, Mascagni
Words & Music Magazine July 2007
Marcel Xerri is of Maltese descent and has an athletic Mediterranean appearance. The warmth and richness of the Mediterranean is evident in the timbre of his voice. Emotive depth is balanced with an effortless ringing top creating a fine dramatic tenor.
Marcel Xerri studied privately in the UK with Shirley Dangerfield, an international dramatic soprano and now receives vocal coaching from Paul Farrington.
He sings many of the romantic and heroic tenor roles and is equally at home in oratorio and concert.
An accomplished exponent of contemporary music, his performances of new works include 'In Reason and Passion' a Cantata for voice and piano composed for him by John Human and 'The Strangest of Islands' an opera by Guy Richardson.
Concert experience has included recitals ranging from Neapolitan Song through to Wagner. Most recently as the guest soloist with the Cwmbach Male Voice Choir.
Marcel Xerri has also sung for charities such as diabetes and Leukaemia Research and is also involved with educational work taking opera into schools and colleges around the country, this includes recent workshops with Opera Brava.
